Chain Grimoire

Chain is a Rare grimoire in Clover Time. It is the only book in its band, so the published 15% is its own rate — about one roll in 7. 4 abilities are documented, 4 of them with damage figures; the highest published hit in the kit is Chain Heavy at 180.

Chain publishes the cheapest big hit in the game: 180 for zero stat points.

Every published Chain ability

"Points req" is the number of stat points you must have spent in total to unlock the ability — a cumulative gate, not a cost per ability. Nine of the ten launch grimoires scale their abilities off Power; the basic M1 attack is the exception and scales off Strength.

180 damage, no stat investment

Chain Heavy is published at 180 base damage with a points requirement of 0. It is the second-highest published single hit in the launch game, behind only Ice's Absolute Zero at 200 — and unlike that one it asks for no stat threshold before it unlocks.

Chain sits in the Rare band at 15%, and Rare holds only this book, so 15% is Chain's own published rate rather than a band average that other books dilute.

It beats the book that out-hits it

Divide by cooldown and the ranking flips. Chain Heavy publishes 12 damage per cooldown second on a 15s reset, while Ice's Absolute Zero publishes 200 over 28s — about 7.1 per second. On published damage per cooldown second, the Rare book's signature hit leads the launch game.

That is the part of Chain most players miss. It is not only a high ceiling; it is a high ceiling reachable on an unlevelled character, which matters most in the first week of a new game.

So why is it only B tier?

Because the floor is low. Every one of Chain's named abilities sits on a long cooldown — Chain Barrage at 14s, Chain Heavy at 15s, Chain Stun at 20s. Between casts there is very little to do, and a kit that cannot fill its own downtime loses to a smaller kit that never stops.

Chain Stun is published at 100 behind a 50-point gate, so the back half of the kit does require investment while the front half does not. That split is exactly why the ranking calls Chain polarising rather than simply strong.

Why Chain sits at B tier

Polarising. Chain Heavy (180) and Chain Stun (100) are the second and third highest published hits, but the rest of the kit is slow.

Fine to progress with. That is the short version of the keep-or-reroll call; the grimoire tier list carries the full ranking and the reasoning behind every letter.

How the roll works for Chain

Grimoires come from the Grimoire Tower, and the currency is Crystal Mana rather than the spins you use at the Hage Priest — one crystal buys one roll, and the two currencies do not cross over. Chain shares one roll pool with the other nine books, so 15% is the rate for this book specifically, not a rate you can improve by rolling somewhere else.

There is no published pity ceiling for the Rare band — the tower's guaranteed ladder only covers Epic, Legendary and Mythic. For a Rare book the published 15% rate is the only figure the developer has given, which is why the expected-rolls line above matters more here than the pity counter.
