How to Get a Grimoire in Clover Time
Getting a Clover Time grimoire is three steps and one currency. This page is the route — where to go, what to farm, what to spend it on and when to stop. The full ten-book table with every drop rate lives on the grimoire list, and the currency has its own mana crystals page.
"Drop" and "get" are the same question here
In Roblox games "dropping" an item means a roll producing it, so a search for how to drop a grimoire in Clover Time is asking how to obtain one. That matters, because it rules out the answer people often arrive expecting: there is no boss, chest or quest that hands you a specific book. Grimoires come from one place, and the only thing you control is how many rolls you can afford.
The route, in order
| # | Step | Where | What it costs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Get to the Grimoire Tower | Hage Village (the tower is a sublocation of it) | Nothing — it is open from the start |
| 2 | Farm Crystal Mana | Chests, the world Mana Wolf, subscriptions | Time, or Robux if you subscribe |
| 3 | Spin at the tower | Grimoire Tower | 1 Crystal Mana per roll |
| 4 | Stop at the ceiling, not at hope | Grimoire Tower | 250 crystals guarantees the top band |
Steps 2 and 3 are the only ones that take real time, and step 4 is the one almost everyone gets wrong: the pity ladder makes the last stretch of a grind predictable, which changes what you should do with the crystals you have. More on that below.
Step 1 — where the tower actually is
The Grimoire Tower is listed on the developer board as a sublocation of Hage Village, next to the church, the potato fields, the mine and the river. It is not a separate map and it is not gated behind a level, a quest or a boss. If you are looking for an unlock condition, there is not one — the gate is purely the currency.
This is also where the two different roll locations get confused. The tower rolls grimoires. The Hage Priest rolls your race, social class and trait. They are different buildings with different currencies, and the game does not spell that out — the races page covers the priest side.
Step 2 — farm Crystal Mana, the only grimoire currency
One Crystal Mana buys one roll at the tower. Nothing else does. The developer board publishes the crystal rates on the chest tables, the world Mana Wolf and the subscription cards, and the short version is worth putting in one place:
| Source | Crystal chance | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal Chest | Not published | — | Fragments at 1.68% (1–2) |
| Medium Chest | 0.38% | — | Fragments at 3.1% (5–10) |
| Big Chest | 6.7% | 1–7 | Fragments at 8.3% (5–25) |
| Mana Wolf (world enemy) | 30% | 1–2 | Fragments only, not full crystals — and it drops chests as well |
| Subscriptions | Guaranteed | 12 per month across three tiers | No RNG — the only source that is not a drop roll |
The chest grid is the part to plan around.A Big Chest is the only chest with a real crystal line at 6.7% for 1–7 at once, and it is limited to 10 a day; Normal Chests pay fragments at 1.68%. The full breakdown, including which bosses drop which chest, is on the mana crystals page.
Step 3 — spin, and read the band rate correctly
When you spin, the roll lands on a rarity band, not on a named grimoire. That single fact explains most of the disappointment in the first week: four of the ten launch grimoires are Common, so a 50% band means most rolls genuinely do feel the same.
Where bands hold more than one grimoire, the published percentage is the chance of getting any grimoire in that band, not a specific title. The developer does not publish a per-book split, and we do not invent one.
| Band | Drop rate | Books in band | Average rolls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 50% | 4 (shared rate) | ~2.0 |
| Uncommon | 30% | 1 | ~3.3 |
| Rare | 15% | 1 | ~6.7 |
| Epic | 3% | 2 (shared rate) | ~33.3 |
| Legendary | 1.5% | 1 | ~66.7 |
| Mythic | 0.5% | 1 | ~200 |
Every grimoire, its ability count and its highest published hit are in the full grimoire table. This page stays on the route.
Step 4 — the pity ladder is your real ceiling
This is the part that turns an open-ended grind into a plan. The Grimoire Tower card publishes a guaranteed-drop ceiling in Crystal Mana, so you are never rolling blind forever:
| Guaranteed band | Crystal Mana |
|---|---|
| Epic | 50 |
| Legendary | 100 |
| Mythic | 250 |
One more lever: the same card states that some subscriptions cut the pity by 30%, which would put the top-band ceiling at 175 Crystal Mana. Which subscriptions qualify is not stated on the board; the database lists them.
The four numbers, and which one to budget against
The pity ladder only helps if you know which of the four numbers circulating about Clover Time grimoires is actually a guarantee. Putting them side by side, using the Epic band and the Mythic band as the two extremes:
- The published rate. The per-roll chance of a band, straight off the developer board. It is a probability per roll, not a schedule.
- The average. Just 1 ÷ the rate — what people mean when they say a grimoire "takes about ~200 rolls". It is the middle of a very wide spread.
- The 90% figure. How many rolls before you are likely to have seen it. Always far above the average, and the number that makes rare books look impossible.
- The pity ceiling. The only published guarantee, and therefore the only one you can budget against.
| Band | Published rate | Average rolls | 50% chance by | 90% chance by | Guaranteed by |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epic | 3% | ~33.3 | 23 | 76 | See the ladder above |
| Mythic | 0.5% | ~200 | 139 | 460 | 250 crystals |
Read the two rows together and the reason to save becomes obvious: for Mythic the 90% figure is 460 rolls, which nobody would budget for — while the actual guarantee arrives at 250 crystals. The gap between those last two columns is the entire argument for banking Crystal Mana instead of spending it the moment a chest pays out 1.68% fragments.
If you are still deciding which grimoire to aim for, the grimoire tier list ranks all ten of them, and the Anti-Magic page covers the rarest one in detail.
Two traps worth naming
Spins are not Crystal Mana
Codes pay Spins, and Spins do not work at the tower. So a codes haul does not buy a single grimoire roll — it funds the race reroll at the Hage Priest instead. Treating the two as one pool is the most common early mistake, and the codes page marks which rewards are which.
Rerolling a working grimoire costs you twice
Every roll you spend chasing a band you cannot yet guarantee is a roll you will have to make again. A usable mid-band grimoire that clears content while you bank crystals is worth more than an empty slot, and the arithmetic is on the tier list page.
Frequently asked questions
How do you get a grimoire in Clover Time?
Three steps. Reach the Grimoire Tower in Hage Village, farm Crystal Mana (one crystal buys one roll), then spin at the tower until a grimoire drops. There is no quest, shop or level requirement — the only gate is the currency and the odds.
What does "drop a grimoire" mean in Clover Time?
The same thing as getting one. "Drop" is Roblox slang for a rare item coming out of a roll or a chest, so a search for how to drop a grimoire is asking how to obtain one. There is no way to make a specific grimoire fall out of an enemy.
Can you get a specific grimoire in Clover Time?
No. The tower rolls against the rarity ladder, and the developer publishes odds per band rather than per grimoire — so you can aim at a band such as Mythic, but not at one named grimoire inside it. The pity ladder is the only lever you control, and it guarantees the top band rather than a specific title.
How many rolls does a grimoire take?
It depends entirely on the band. A Common grimoire is 50% and lands almost immediately, while Mythic is 0.5% — about 460 rolls for a 90% chance if you only had the raw rate. The pity ceiling at 250 Crystal Mana arrives long before that, so in practice the ceiling is what you plan around.
Do you need a grimoire to play Clover Time?
You roll one during the opening, so you always have a grimoire. The question is whether it is worth rerolling: ten launch grimoires sit across six bands, and four of them are Common, which is why early rerolls often feel like they did nothing.
Do Clover Time codes give grimoires?
No. Codes pay Spins and chests, and Spins are the race currency at the Hage Priest, not tower currency. Only Crystal Mana buys a grimoire roll, so codes are an indirect route at best — they fund the chests that pay crystals.
